About Us
Hi, and thank you for being here.
We are Reija and Justin and together we are Cycling For Cancer.
In the summer and autumn of 2021, we cycled 5,518 kilometres across Europe, from Nuorgam in Finland to Torrevieja in Spain. It was the first of many rides to raise awareness of womb cancer and Lynch Syndrome.
There is a very personal motivator behind our first bicycle tour.
In March 2019 I was diagnosed with womb cancer. It was at stage three and required a radical hysterectomy, six courses of chemo, 25 rounds of radiotherapy and 2 sets of brachytherapy (internal radiotherapy) to get rid of it. Despite one oncologists’s grim view, the treatments worked and there has been no evidence of cancer since October 2019.
Following the cancer diagnosis, I also learnt that I have Lynch Syndrome. It is an inherited genetic mutation that increases the carrier’s risk of certain types of cancers. It is estimated that one in 295 people has Lynch Syndrome, but only 5% of those know they have the faulty gene.
My experience left me with a desire to make a difference. To spread awareness of womb cancer so that more people will identify the symptoms and seek medical advice before the cancer has had a chance to spread. And of Lynch Syndrome because people with the genetic mutation can get lifesaving monitoring.
We also want to make a difference with bringing some fun and happiness to the lives of those affected by cancer. To give them memories to cherish. These plans are in progress at the moment and we will keep you updated.
We are both super excited about our charity plans for the future and can’t wait to share more with you.
